The German playmaker committed to a new contract with the Gunners in January but admits he could stay well beyond the end of that deal in 2021.
Mesut Ozil
Mesut Ozil is open to the idea of seeing out his career at Arsenal and believes he can extend his playing days for another eight years.
The German playmaker saw his future at Emirates Stadium fall under the microscope last season, as he entered the final year of his contract.
He was, however, to display his commitment to the club by penning fresh terms which are set to take him through to 2021.
Ozil has suggested that he has at least one more renewal in him with the Gunners, with the World Cup winner prepared to consider hanging up his boots in north London.
“Why not? I am still young, I am 30,” he told the Evening Standard.
“In football, everything is possible but I am really happy to play for a big club like Arsenal. I just enjoy it and I can imagine finishing my career at Arsenal.”
Ozil is into his sixth season with the Gunners, having signed from Real Madrid in the summer of 2013.
He has already taken in over 200 appearances and netted 41 goals, but there could be many more to come if he gets his wish of playing on until his late 30s.
Asked how long he can continue, Ozil said: “Maybe aged 38! No, really, I always think if I feel well, I could go on until I am 35 or 36, I don’t know. If everything is good, we’ll see.”
For now, the focus of all of those on Arsenal’s books is locked on the present and a 2018-19 campaign which is shaping up nicely.
Unai Emery was handed a baptism of fire after inheriting the reins from Arsene Wenger, with the season opened with defeats to Manchester City and Chelsea, but the Gunners are now on a 14-game unbeaten run across all competitions.
“Of course, the first two games were difficult for us because everything was new after Wenger. But now you can see that we are going forward step by step,” added Ozil.
“We are in a good way and want to continue that under him. He is a really good coach, he wants to understand the players, the club and we want to show him on the pitch what we can do.”
