Falz Sues NBC For N100M As ‘This Is Nigeria’ Hits 15M Youtube Views
Popular Nigerian singer and rapper, Folarin ‘Falz’ Falana has filed a lawsuit against the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) for placing a ban on his song; “This Is Nigeria.”
The award-winning music act filed the court documents through his lawyers, Adepetun Caxton-Martins Agbor & Segun (ACAS-Law), on November 6, 2018 – that is three months after the NBC sent a letter to JODAJ Global Communications Limited in Jos sanctioning them for playing the song and banning the song from being played on radio, along with some other songs.
In the letter sent to JODAJ Global Communications Limited, NBC stated that the reason for banning This Is Nigeria is that the lyrics are vulgar and in contravention of the NBC Code.
The development stirred outrage on social media as a lot of Nigerians, including celebrities, slammed the Commission NBC for the ban.
Falz also declared in an interview that he would write to the NBC to seek a justification for the ban and if necessary, seek legal redress in the courts. He has stayed true to his declaration by taking legal action against the regulatory body.
Meanwhile, This Is Nigeria has crossed 15million YouTube views within six months of release.
Despite the ban by the NBC, it has had exactly 15,170,630 views as of the time of writing this report on Saturday afternoon.
